If you’re crushing hard on someone, you’re probably constantly analyzing them for signs that they’re into you. If they’re acting in weird ways that leave you scratching your head, don’t write them off just yet! They could be giving you giant clues that they’re secretly into you. Here are some indicators that a person’s got feelings for you, even if they don’t say it.
1. They go quiet around you.
You love spending time with them, but every time you ask them questions, they tend to go quiet — even though they’re usually talkative and outgoing. What gives? They might be feeling so nervous about being around you that it’s overwhelming. They’re afraid to unleash their real thoughts and opinions for fear of being judged. So, stay silent and try to get their racing heart under control without you noticing that they’re feeling out of their element.
2. They stare at you, then look away when you bust them.
Maybe you’re busy typing on your laptop or chatting to someone on the phone, when you can feel that your crush is looking at you. When you try to make eye contact with them, they look away and pretend to be busy with something else. Awkward! They’re sneaking glances your way because they just can’t stop looking at you. When you bust them for checking you out, they have to look away because they’re not confident enough to continue gazing at you, Mark Manson explains.
3. They tap their foot or fidget a lot.
You can tell someone you’re chatting to likes you if they behave in a nervous way. Maybe they tap their feet under the table or keep touching their hair. Their discomfort is a huge sign they’re into you because you’re making them feel uneasy. They can’t sit still like they can around other people they feel nothing for. It could also be that they’re already self-conscious or have social anxiety, so catching feelings for you is intensifying their anxiety.
4. They brag.
Sometimes, a person might brag about their success and achievements in your company so that they feel good about themselves and boost their confidence levels. They’re trying hard to impress you so that you like them. But, the sad thing is that they might not realize their braggy comments could be having the opposite effect on you. They could be putting you off by making you believe they’re arrogant or egotistical.
5. They giggle a lot.
When someone laughs at everything you say, even if it’s not remotely funny, they’re clearly trying to get your approval. They want you to know that they find you amusing and entertaining, so they might chuckle and giggle. Yup, it’s cute and a little bit awkward. They might also do this because they don’t have the guts to tell you how they feel, or they’re feeling nervous during conversation.
6. They ask you for advice.
When someone you’re into randomly calls you up for advice about their career or friendship issues, you might be surprised — especially if you don’t have a close bond with them. They’re doing this because they value your opinion, sure, but they also want you to feel flattered by their attention. By making you feel appreciated, they’re hoping to sneakily show you that you’re important to them.
7. They love whatever you love.
Someone who’s into you might agree with everything you say, at least when they start getting to know you. You love horses? So do they! You want to visit Thailand? Ditto! They might be doing this to try to show you that you’re a good match for each other. It might make you feel like they’re trying too hard to be agreeable, though. Hopefully, as they learn more about you, they’ll calm down and share what they’re really like.
8. They like all your social media posts.
Not meaning to be stalkerish, the person might start paying a bit more attention to your social media updates to learn as much as they can about you. They might “like” your posts or comment on them to engage you in conversation. They’re so interested in you that they can’t stay off your socials! They want to scream out to you that they like you, but they can’t, so they resort to loving the crap out of what you post online.
9. Their friends act weird around you.
If you want to know what a person thinks about you, spend some time with their friends. If their buddies are suddenly acting in a strange way when you’re around, that’s a sign they know what the person feels for you. For example, they might want to ask you lots of questions to learn more about you, or they might stare at you a lot when you’re all hanging out together.
10. They remember tiny details about you.
Someone who likes you will pay more attention to you, such as by noticing the smallest details about you and your life. They’ll remember that it’s your parents’ anniversary in two weeks or notice the first time you wear pink. Or, they’ll recall your complicated Starbucks order with ease. They don’t miss a thing because they’re so focused on everything you do and say.
11. They lean over the table.
They always say that you can tell someone likes you when they try to get closer to you, but they might do this in odd ways, such as by leaning over the table during conversation. This is when they place their elbows on the table and stretch their upper body over to you so that they can feel physically closer to you. If you don’t know what they’re trying to do, it might feel a bit odd and overpowering!
12. They get excited about your weird passions.
Maybe you’re interested in bug fighting or extreme ironing. When you share your interesting or odd hobbies with the person, they get just as excited about or interested in them. While it might feel a bit strange that they’d express interest, they’re doing this because they find everything about you so appealing. Yes, even the things that other people roll their eyes at.
13. They’re avoiding you.
Although it might sound strange to say that someone who likes you might not want to spend time with you, they could be avoiding you because it’s just too nerve-wracking to be in your presence, MindBodyGreen notes. They feel so nervous and anxious that they have to create some physical distance between you. So, they might avoid eye contact or try to maintain a physical distance because touching you feels too overwhelming.
14. They show up wherever you are.
If the person knows where you’re going to be hanging out on the weekend, they might pitch up at the club or restaurant. What a coincidence — not! They’re so keen to spend time with you and get to know you better that they’ll try to hang out in your favorite places. “Running into you” makes it easier for them to engage in conversation, while preventing them from the terror of asking you out via text.
15. They act like a stand-up comedian around you.
You can always tell someone’s keen for your approval when they try to make you laugh as much as possible. If the person keeps making witty comments during conversation to keep you in stitches, they’re banking on the fact that laughter helps people to connect. It’s cute because it shows how much they want you to smile. The bonus? Laughter reduces all the stress they feel in your presence!
